
High content analysis (HCA) without high throughput wastes the potential of this technology. Therefore, at Imagen Biotech we have invested in state-of-the-art equipment which allows us to perform HCA experiments in a high throughput manner. There are two components which are essential for high throughput HCA. The first is the hardware: a machine that produces great images, has rapid scan times and plate stacking capabilities is a must. The second component, often forgotten, is very fast and reliable analysis software. We would argue that HCA is just as much about analysis as image acquisition so the software platform is critical.
For this reason we have gone back to the Thermofisher Arrayscan platform with confocal capabilities because this system offers great images and very rapid analysis which means we can process many more wells per hour. Combining the new Arrayscan VTI with our Hamilton Star robot, which has an integrated tecan platewasher, means we can fully automate our High Content Screening facility delivering the sort of service that is equal or better than most large pharma internal resource.
Our PlateMaker Wizard allows us to rapidly design, execute and analyse complex cell-based screens at a price which is extremely economical. Furthermore, the ability to drive the sequencing of the liquid handling robot from Excel workbooks means we can completely automate larger HCA assays ensuring correct compound handling from experimental plate design right through to final data analysis.
