Speak to most High Content Screening experts and they will tell you that it is very difficult to obtain cell cycle information from the nuclear staining acquired from a fluorescence micrograph. At Imagen Biotech, we do not suffer this limitation because we have our own way of permeabilising the cells which gives a nuclear signal that is proportional to DNA content. Therefore we can obtain great cell cycle profiles from all our images giving you yet another parameter to examine with our assays. It is also possible to use the information contained in the cell cycle to do subpopulation analysis. For example, you can determine how a compound's action on its target is influenced by the cell cycle phase.
